Hi there, Coco!

Continuing our theme of the ADHD Parenting Filters, this week we discuss the topic of "Consistently, Inconsistent." The ADHD Truths we share with you reflect aspects of ADHD that few people talk about.

Even though the challenges for those with ADHD are brain-based and described as Executive Function Deficits, knowing that our kiddos struggle with Executive Function Skills and understanding them are very different.

I knew for years that my sons had ADHD, but I did not understand HOW it showed up for them.

Today's video addresses the "They're just not trying!" we often hear others tell us about our kids. Have you had a teacher say to you, "If he would just try a little harder, he would do great." Or how about "She has so much potential but is just not living up to it; she's just not trying hard enough!"

Ugh, those comments still put a pit in my stomach.

And to be honest, before I knew about ADHD, I used to think the same thing! It is incredibly confusing and often frustrating when our kiddos can do something one day but not the next. Without this lens, we will continue to point fingers, get angry and struggle to parent our kids the way we want to—with kindness and compassion.
