Hi Coco,
We hope you all had a Happy Halloween and got your fill of candy. It was quiet at our house this year, my daughter spent time with friends, and my son is at the stage where he's "too cool" to door-knock for candy. Instead, he enjoyed handing it out to the astronauts, police officers, and princesses that came knocking this year-what fun!
Last week we discussed the "Now, not Now" Filter, which revealed our kid's struggle with time. Several parents commented that breaking down the time challenges into two time zones was super helpful.
It also ignited a lot of "aha" moments around why our kiddos often respond to something we've asked of them as if it were the first time they've heard it!
Recognizing how time works for our kids gives us a better chance of bringing them into the NOW and developing strategies when they are stuck in the NOT NOW—all of which makes for a more peaceful home.
Our second video is all about Cognitive Flexibility. This is a HUGE topic in the ADHD world. Cognitive Flexibility is considered a fundamental skill necessary to function and be successful in all areas of our lives.
It's one of the core lagging skills Dr. Ross Greene mentions in his work as a critical contributing factor to challenging behaviors.
When our kiddos struggle with cognitive flexibility, they have difficulty shifting from one mindset or task to the next and appear stubborn, willful, and disobedient. It's their way or the highway.
It can drive us crazy when "they never do what we ask!"
So, what can we do? We can use the Cognitive Flexibility Filter to help us "see" our kids through a different "lens."

We'd love to hear your thoughts.
Warmly,
Vicky and Coco
P.S. How will you approach your kids next time they struggle to be flexible?
